Moët & Chandon continues America’s Cup partnership

Moët & Chandon will once again return as the official Champagne of the America’s Cup ahead of the 37th edition of the international sailing competition.

The regattas for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup will start in latest August off Barcelona, with the current holder Emirates Team New Zealand vying to retain the trophy and fend off the five challengers: INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic, and Orient Express Racing Team. It will conclude on 7 October.

First contested in 1851 off the Isle of Wight, the America’s Cup has grown into the most famous sailing race in the world. It is such a revered sporting event that when Australia caused an upset in 1983 and won it, then Aussie PM Bob Hawke famously declared: “Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum!”

Moët & Chandon has been a sponsor of the event for more than three decades, first associating with the America’s Cup back in 1987, and Sibylle Scherer, the Champagne house’s CEO, said that she was “proud” that the partnership was continuing: “Sailing and champagne converge in a common ambition: the pursuit of excellence and the exploration of new horizons. This collaboration further strengthens Moët & Chandon’s commitment to the world of sports.”

The LVMH-owned brand has indeed become something of a fixture at sporting events, including the French Open, and, presently, the Paris Olympics. The America’s Cup is sponsored overall by the LV in LVMH, Louis Vuitton.

“Moët & Chandon has long been synonymous with not only the America’s Cup, but major international yachting events all around the world and we are delighted to welcome the brand back for the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona,” added America’s Cup Event CEO Grant Dalton.

Moët & Chandon Champagne will be popped open by the winning crews, and utilised at the various trophy presentations during the competition.
