Zonin1821 collaborates with UK Sommelier Association

Italian wine giant Zonin1821 has teamed up with the UK Sommelier Association in an effort to foster the next generation of British wine professionals.

Since its formation in 2005, the UK Sommelier Association has certified more than 1,000 somms. However, in recent years, with Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a crippling shortage of sommeliers in UK restaurants.

However, through its sponsorship of the association’s five month sommelier course, Zonin1821 will not only be encouraging more young people to go into the industry, but also showcasing some of the premium wines from its portfolio, including those from Ca’ Bolani, Castello Di Albola, Rocca Di Montemassi, Oltrenero, Principi di Butera, Masseria Altemura, and New World offerings from Barboursville (Virginia) and Dos Almas (Colchagua and Casablanca). Students will also be able to taste wine distributed in the UK by Zonin1821, such as Barolo producer Damilano and South Africa’s DuToitskloof.

Simon Thomas, Zonin1821’s UK managing director, said: “We’re thrilled to provide wines from our exceptional Italian and international portfolio to help prepare the next generation of top sommeliers in partnership with the UKSA. Supporting education and expertise in fine wine service aligns perfectly with Zonin1821’s values.”

UK Sommelier Association vice president Federica Zanghirella added: “We are thrilled to embark on this exciting partnership with Zonin1821. With our deep appreciation for the exceptional quality of their wines, we are eagerly anticipating the journey of introducing a selection of their extraordinary range to our students, the future connoisseurs of fine wines and sommeliers.”
