Leone Alato acquires Duemani
Veneto-based wine group Le Tenute Del Leone Alato has continued its recent portfolio expansion with the acquisition of biodynamic Tuscan estate Duemani, which has vineyards in Riparbella and Castellina Marittima.
Leone Alato recently struck three distribution deals with estates in Champagne, Montalcino and Salento. Now, in the latest sign of the group’s ambitions, it has added another winery to its winemaking hub.
Founded in 2000 by Elena Celli and Luca D’Attoma, Duemani is 13 hectares (7.5ha in Riparbella’s Ortacavoli Riparbella, 4.5ha in Castellina Marittima’s Bagnoli). Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Grenache are all cultivated biodynamically, and the production capacity is approximately 60,000 bottles, two-thirds of which is exported.
Leone Alato CEO Igor Boccardo broke the news: “The acquisition of Duemani fully fits within the strategy for our winemaking hub: to increase sales by moving along a path aimed at enhancing quality, one that begins from the location of property vineyards. Le Tenute del Leone Alato must be able to count on truly singular companies endowed with specific identities and deeply grounded in Italian regions with undisputed winemaking vocation, such as Piedmont, Veneto, Friuli and now, Tuscany.”
“Duemani is an important new piece in the strategic expansion of the property’s estates: it represents the inclusion of a company that retains a prominent reputation in Italy and overseas. The deal has been possible thanks to the sales target we are attaining. We have openly shared the strategy for Duemani with Elena Celli and Luca D’Attoma, and it will be one of continuity,” Boccardo added.
D’Attoma, who, as Boccardo suggested, will continue in his role as Duemani’s winemaking consultant, said that the acquisition was a “great opportunity”: “This responsibility motivates me to further support Duemani by working alongside a highly competent team with enormous potential, a group of people with whom I can share the path for the future.”
Duemani, the group’s first Tuscan winery acquisition, now joins the likes of Torre Rosazza (Colli Orientali del Friuli), Costa Arènte (Valpantena di Valpolicella), Bricco dei Guazzi (Olivola, in the province of Alessandria), Tenuta Sant’Anna (Eastern Veneto), and V8+ (Prosecco).
