Westons releases a tropical cider to ride the cocktail trend
Westons Cider has introduced a tropical cider to its Rosie’s Pig range, targeting bars that wish to tap into consumer demand for cocktails.
Speaking to the drinks business, Gemma Evans, Rosie’s Pig brand manager at Westons Cider revealed that “with consumer interest for fun serves and fruity ciders peaking in the summer, we wanted to launch a product that spoke to this audience whilst staying true to our traditional, quality serves”.
She told db: “With Raspberry Cloudy and Rhubarb Cloudy flavours already in the range, Rosie’s Pig Tropical Cloudy Cider joins the portfolio ahead of the warmer months to deliver yet one more refreshing, fruity summer alternative as the pineapple and coconut infusion brings a familiar and much enjoyed flavour combination to our classic cloudy cider.”
Rosie’s Pig Tropical Cloudy Cider, according to the Herefordshire-based cider house, “offers a quick and practical way for pubs and bars to provide drinkers with a delicious tropical drink without the need for complicated cocktail making”.
The new 4% ABV cider variant is available in 10 litre bag-in-box format and is being positioned as a serve that is “perfect for busy bars”.
Despite claims that the cider is being positioned to take advantage of trends, in Westons’ 2023 Cider Report, the cider company specifically outlined how even though craft cider will continue to lead growth opportunities, flavoured cider had plateaued and admitted that “the once buoyant flavoured cider market has balanced out at one-third of the total market, countering predictions that it could represent half of cider sales by 2023”.
Irrespective of the evidence that the flavoured category for cider had slowed down, Evans identified the new launch as “a fantastic solution in terms of shelf life, volume and price” and also stated the positive aspects of the method of serve since “bag-in-box formats can be dispensed on a hand-pull through the cellar, from the fridge or even at room temperature directly from the bar”.
Rosie’s Pig Tropical Cloudy Cider joins Rosie’s Pig Cloudy Cider, Rosie’s Pig Cloudy Cider with Rhubarb and Rosie’s Pig Cloudy Cider with Raspberry within the portfolio. Westons, which also produces Henry Westons, Stowford Press, Old Rosie and distributes Veltins German Pilsner in the UK, recently announced expansion plans for its mill in Much Marcle, Herefordshire in an effort to keep up with demand.
