Jackson Family Wines finalises acquisition of Blue Grouse
Jackson Family Wines has finalised its purchase of the British Columbia-based Blue Grouse Estate Winery & Vineyard.
The acquisition, which includes the winery property, tasting room, vineyards, and brands Blue Grouse and Quill, reinforces the winery’s commitment to cool-climate wine growing regions.
The move also sees the second and third generation members of the Jackson family, including Katie Jackson, Julia Jackson, Chris Jackson, Hailey Jackson-Hartford Murray, and MacLean Hartford, securing the location in the southern part of the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
The deal, which is being described as a natural alignment and shared vision between the Blue Grouse team and the next generation of the Jackson family, has also been heralded as a “dedication to environmental stewardship”.
According to the family-owned wine company, “the Jackson family is constantly exploring and expanding into new wine regions, and this acquisition offers the family an opportunity to diversify their global portfolio, which today includes vineyards in California, Oregon, Washington, Italy, France, Chile, South Africa, and Australia while continuing their steadfast focus on cool-climate regions”.
The family also has stated that it sees “tremendous potential in Canada’s only cool-climate maritime winegrowing region, the Cowichan Valley, which has proven its propensity for producing premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.”
On the viticulture side, the Blue Grouse winery team initially led efforts to help establish the island’s first official ‘Sub-Geographic Indication’, showing a commitment to a local-first focus shared by many in the Cowichan Valley.
The site is on one of the oldest vineyards on Vancouver Island and Blue Grouse is also a leader in environmental sustainability and shares this vision and values with the Jackson family.
The Jackson family highlighted how it has “always recognised that behind every successful winery are incredible people and acknowledges the contribution the team has made to help build one of Vancouver Island’s premier wineries”.
The team at Blue Grouse will continue to manage the property and its assets, but looks forward to working alongside Jackson Family Wines to continue building upon its success and reputation.
