Sandrone joins Pol Roger Portfolio

Pol Roger Portfolio has announced the addition of acclaimed Barolo producer Sandrone.

The late Luciano Sandrone, who died in January of this year, founded the business in 1977 when he bought a parcel of less than a hectare in Cannubi Boschis. Over the next four decades, he would expand the scale of operations, bringing in relations (including his brother, Luca, and daughter, Barbara), and acquired further vineyards in Barolo and Roero, bringing the total area of vineyards to 27ha today.

At presente, Sandrone produces three Barolos. In addition to Barolo Le Vigne (a blend of parcels from the communes of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d’Alba, Novello and Serralunga d’Alba), there is also Barolo Aleste (previously Cannubi Boschis, but re-named in tribute to Luciano Sandrone’s grandchildren Alessia and Stefano), and Barolo Vite Talin (the expression of a single Nebbiolo clone).

The collection is completed with the addition of Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d’Alba, from the vineyard of the same name in Roero, a Barbera d’Alba, and a Dolcetto d’Alba.

Barbara and Luca Sandrone, the present owners of Sandrone, said: “Our whole family is very proud to partner with Pol Roger in the UK for the best distribution of our wines
and we are thrilled to walk along together in the future.”

James Simpson MW, managing director of Pol Roger Portfolio, commented: “We were immensely sorry to hear of the passing of the great Luciano Sandrone at the start of this year. His vision to elevate the esteem of Barolo, both nationally and internationally, and create wines of immense quality, purity, and longevity is one that he wholeheartedly accomplished. We are pleased to be able to work with this incredible family and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to help them promulgate the vision of Luciano, as well as represent the full Sandrone collection in the UK.”

Pol Roger Portfolio will only be selling the Sandrone wines into the on-trade in the first instance and will then start to sell to the off-trade in autumn 2023.
