Napa’s Opus One and a 100-point Inglenook Rubicon released onto La Place

One of Napa’s highest profile fine wines, Opus One, has released its 2019 vintage on La Place de Bordeaux, described by one critic as a ‘truly magnificent Opus One in the making’. 

The Opus One 2019 has been release for £3,024 per 12×75 – up on the current market price of the 2018 vintage, which stands at £2,829, according to Liv-ex.

The 2018, which scored 98-points, has traded consistently since its release, the fine wine marketplace said, becoming the top-traded label in the secondary market from among those launched through La Place last year.

This year’s release is less than the current market price of the 2016 vintage (£3,096) or the 2013 vintage, (£3,788).  

The winery’s second wine, Overture, was also released yesterday. 

Opus One was born of a joint venture between legendary American winemaker Robert Mondavi and the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild, with the first vintage (1979) released in 1983.  It has since become one of California’s highest profile wines.

Also out this week was Napa’s Inglenook Rubicon 2019, which critic Jane Anson gave 100-points, calling it “a storming, stonking Napa wine playing at the top of its game in 2019″. The Wine Advocate gave it 96+ points, with then-reviewer Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW calling it ‘impressive’, while Antonio Galloni at Vinous said it offered a “captivating mix of textural intensity and vibrancy”, scoring it 95-points. 

It has been released for £1,710 per 12×75.
