Sam Fender drinks Newcastle Brown Ale while on stage at Glastonbury

During his debut performance at Glastonbury, Sam Fender was seen swigging from a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.

His choice of beer, which, made The North Shields singer’s performance on the Pyramid Stage on Friday night an extremely Geordie move, was complemented by the sight of Newcastle United tops and black and white flags in the audience.

The set opened with Will We Talk and saw Fender sitting behind a piano to deliver each song while the bottle of Newcy Brown beer was sipped at intervals, playing the role of both refreshment as well as prop with a nod to the singer’s hometown.

Saxophone player Johnny Bluehat backed up the theme by wearing a NUFC top and Fender, later in the evening, dedicated his final song The Dying Light to all the Geordies in the audience.

Fender, who has strong connections to his hometown and a genuine love of beer and pubs recently revealed plans for his BRIT Award to be turned it into a beer pump at the local pub where he used to work and was first discovered.
