Footage shows man riding horse into pub during Platinum Jubilee

The Queen is known for her love of all things equine – so it’s apt that one reveller chose to celebrate the Jubilee on 2 June by riding a horse into his local.

The Angel Inn, Burnley, had gone all out on its decorations for the long weekend. The pub already has a pool table, dart board, four screens showing sport and a beer garden – but the inclusion of a horse must have come as something of a surprise for the regulars.

Unfortunately, as this video from SWNS shows, it didn’t quite go to plan. Cheers from the crowd within as the rider was walked in by another patron holding the reins soon turned to noises of concern as the valiant rider banged his head on not one but two door frames. He then fell to the floor, spilling at least one pint, leaving the horse riderless inside the Union Flag-bedecked boozer.

It is unclear whether the man on the horse was a trained jockey, though given the relative brevity of his time in the saddle it can be assumed otherwise. The rider did get up at the end of the video, suggesting his injuries weren’t too severe.

Who owned the horse, what prompted them to allow it into the pub and how long it stayed inside are all questions which are yet to be answered. Perhaps the incident gave the barmaid the chance to ask the age-old question to their four-legged visitor: why the long face?

Though the horse in question was brown, perhaps fittingly The White Horse is one of the ten most common pub names in the UK.
