Simply Italian Great Wines heads for London this October

Winemakers from across Italy are set to arrive in the capital this autumn for what will be the fifth edition of Simply Italian Great Wines (SIGW) in the UK.

Since 2010, SIGW, created by International Exhibition Management, has been helping Italian producers to promote their wines to foreign markets.

The upcoming tasting and masterclasses will take place at One Great George Street in Westminster on 3 October. The event will serve as a fruitful networking opportunity between producers and importers, sommeliers and press.

It will also be the second SIGW London event held since Brexit. Despite the challenges posed by the UK’s exit from the European Union and the covid pandemic, the value of Italian wine imported into the UK grew by 7.2% from 2020 to 2021.

At last year’s SIGW London event, more than 60 wineries from across the length and breadth of Italy participated. One of the key focuses this year will be diversity, both on a regional and appellation level.

Marina Nedic, managing director at IEM, says: “The turmoil provoked by covid shows very different patterns emerging concerning both who is drinking Italian wine and how they are drinking it. SIGW is the chance to taste new labels and discover new wines from all parts of Italy.”

In addition to guided tastings of wines from across Italy, there will also be seminars, workshops and a series of masterclasses hosted by the drinks business. These will be led by leading experts in the Italian wine field, and authorities on Italian oenology. Nedic says: “education is even more important in these ever-changing times.”
