Wines of Argentina names new president

Wines of Argentina has named Alejandro Vigil, winemaking director at Catena Zapata, as its new President, and Mauricio Boullaude, as his vice president.

Vigil will be in charge of the institution for a period of two years. 16 positions on the organisation’s Board of Directors were also renewed.

“It’s an honor to have been chosen to lead this institution that I respect so much,” said Alejandro Vigil, President-elect of Wines of Argentina. “It also makes me very happy to know that, as an organization, we have a clear horizon, a joint vision to continue positioning Argentine wine in the world, at a key moment for the wine industry. We will work together and in pursuit of this goal.”

Alejandro Vigil trained as an agricultural engineer at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the UNCuyo in Mendoza and has a master’s degrees in both winemaking and irrigation management. He began his career at the National Agricultural Technology Institute (INTA) and in 2002 started working at Bodega Catena Zapata as head of Research & Development, later joining the oenology team, which he directs today.

He is also Director of Bodegas Esmeralda, President of Puerto Ancona and co-owner and winemaker of Bodega Aleanna – El Enemigo. He was the first Argentine to receive 100 Points from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate. 

His vice-president, Mauricio Boullaude, is CEO at Bodega A16 and Barbarians Wine Group, with experience in the energy sector and wine industry. He also holds an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Austral, Buenos Aires, and is Professor in Business Strategy at UNCuyo MBA & UMaza Wine MBA.

“There was a high level of participation of wineries at the Assembly, which gives me great satisfaction, since this shows the interest of the industry to work together. Now, we face the challenge of continuing to promote actions and initiatives to position the Vino Argentino brand around the world with greater strength,” added Mauricio Boullaude, Vice President-elect.
