50 Cent buys wine that ‘cost more than a Rolls Royce’ at auction

American rapper Curtis Jackson, best known as 50 Cent, has made a splash at the 2022 Rodeo Uncorked! Champion Wine Auction & Dinner in Houston, spending more than £90,000 on a single bottle of wine.

Whilst his best known song suggests that he can be found ‘in da club’ with a ‘bottle full of bub’, Jackson chose to bid on the 2017 Hye Meadow Winery Boooom Red, hailing from the Texas High Plains appellation, for $125,000. Comprising a blend of Negroamaro, Montepulciano, Aglianico and Sangiovese, and oak aged for two years, the wine had won the distinction of Top Texas Wine, beating some 480 other entrants from the state.

Jackson euphorically tweeted that “you’re a nobody till you win a bid at the wine auction. Now I have a bottle of wine that costs more than a Rolls Royce.” He later jokingly posted on his Instagram page that the organisers had sent over two men to make sure he had paid for the bottle.

No stranger to the world of high end drinks, Jackson, who owns Sire Spirits, has previously taken home the title of Reserve Grand Champion Best of Show at the 2021 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition for his Le Chemin du Roi Brut, Champagne AOC, NV, which was purchased for $160,000. However, that particular event proved bittersweet for Jackson, as he unsuccessfully bid $175,000 on a bottle, remarking on Instagram at the time that “there are some people in Texas that got alot of money.”

It is unclear when Jackson intends to consume his prize – for now he is just celebrating his auction victory.
