Bohem and Charles Faram’s lager ‘Most’ showcases the new Czech hop

Bohem Brewery has launched a single hop lager, named ‘Most’, that has been brewed in collaboration with hop specialist Charles Faram.

The 4.5%-ABV beer from Bohem Brewery, which has been named after the ‘Most’ hop – developed by Charles Faram and grown exclusively in the Czech Republic – is one of a handful of brews in a series of international collaborations that are set to shine a spotlight on the hop.

The Czech hop ‘Most’ is a sister hop of Jester and Olicana and has been in development for approximately five years and offers lagers a grapefruit and melon aroma and a balance of complexity that will appeal to fans of Czech beers. The hop itself is named Most, meaning ‘bridge’ as it was seen as a bridge between the UK and the Czech Republic and can be used for aroma or bittering.

The lager ‘Most’, which will have spent six weeks in the lagering tanks at Bohem’s north London brewery, will have been dry-hopped, single-hopped and brewed using Bohem’s authentic Czech decoction kit to give it a soft, full mouthfeel.

The brewing day saw Charles Faram managing director Paul Corbett and sales manager/brewer Jon Stringer join Bohem head brewer Matĕj Krizek and brewing assistant Honza Svatek to make the beer and assess how the hop performed on the Czech brew kit.

Corbett said: “’Most’ is a very new hop and still in trials. Brewing with Bohem gave us a chance to see how the hop performs ‘under fire’, using real-world Czech brewing kit and producing a commercial beer with genuine appeal to lager drinkers.”

Krizek added: “Most is a complex hop that has delivered a complex beer, which is different to anything else we brew. We’re really pleased that Charles Faram has given us the opportunity to work with the new hop, and it was great to work with Paul and Jon on the collaboration.

A limited run of ‘Most’ will be available in kegs and 440ml cans while stocks last.
