A-lister Blake Lively has announced the launch of her own brand of low-calorie mixers that can be drunk alone or mixed with alcohol.

The Betty Buzz mixer range was dubbed a “secret project” by Lively, who had reportedly been working on the low-calorie drinks for three years.

The lineup of drinks thus far comprises five 266ml bottled mixers. The flavours? Tonic Water, Sparking Grapefruit, Meyer Lemon Club Soda, Sparkling Lemon Lime, and Ginger Beer. All of the drinks contain between 30-70 calories with the exception of the Meyer Lemon Club Soda, which has zero calories.

“I’m mortified that I’ve spent three years obsessing over the exact bubble size and quantity for the perfect, highly explosive pops,” Lively wrote on Instagram, in a nod to the attention-to-detail she has paid the mixers.

“Think of all I could have accomplished in the amount of times I tried 17 versions of Meyer Lemon club Soda,” she joked.

The range of drinks are free from artificial flavours, colours, or sweeteners and each bottle makes two drinks when combined with your spirit of choice.

“I don’t drink. I know that’s odd coming from the wife of an infamous gin slinger.” Lively, whose husband Ryan Reynolds is the owner of Aviation Gin, said of the launch.

“Over the past many years of mixing but not drinking cocktails, it became clear mixers are the unsung heroes of the drink world and deserve just as much love as alcohol.”

The name Betty Buzz is a nod to Lively’s father, who inspired her to name the line after her grandmother and aunt, who were both known as Betty. Lively and Reynolds also share a daughter named Betty.

“My dad’s name was Ernest Brown Jr but he was known as Ernie Lively. He gave up his last name when he married my mom and any success he, or I, have experienced has been in a name that isn’t his.” She explained.

“So when I was working hard to build this company, I wanted any success to be in a name that was meaningful to him. Betty was his mom and his sister’s name. Also, Ernie would not be the best name for a mixer.”

Betty Buzz is available for purchase now from select retailers across the United States and online. A variety pack of 12 costs US$29.99.

This follows an astonishing flurry of celebrity drinks launches in recent months, among the most notable of which was Kendall Jenner’s 818 Tequila launch.
