Sipsmith launches ‘Strawberry Smash’ gin made with last year’s unused Wimbledon strawberries

Gin brand Sipsmith has unveiled a new tipple that sounds very much like the sip of the summer – a ‘Strawberry Smash’ gin made using last year’s Wimbledon strawberries.

Housed in a fetching bottle embossed with the famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships logo, the strawberry gin is made with the unused strawberries from last year’s cancelled Championships.

Sipsmith says of the Strawberry Smash gin on its website:

“This unique twist on our London Dry Gin is distilled with real Wimbledon strawberries and a hint of English mint to capture the very essence of Championship sipping. Enjoy in a G&T, collins or club for a winning serve.”

The tantalising tipple has been made using strawberries from the 2020 harvest of Hugh Lowe Farms in Kent – the exclusive grower for the Championships. It’s ensured that the 2020 harvest’s bounty didn’t go to waste.

Sipsmith master distiller, Jared Brown, said of the launch:

“This year with Sipsmith becoming the Official Gin Partner of Wimbledon we felt it was quite right to harness the taste of British summertime and use last year’s Championships strawberries to make this year’s champion gin.

“As with all of our innovative gins we crafted Strawberry Smash to our exacting standards by layering complimentary sweet ripe strawberries, fresh English mint and refreshing citrus fruits on top of our original London Dry Gin base to create a delightfully fruity and refreshing gin with a smooth and balanced finish.

We’re passionate about making sure each of the gins that leave our distillery is quite right and hope that sippers will recognise this pursuit for perfection in the gin, and will be delighted by each sip whether they’re treating themselves to a classic G&T or a delicious strawberry serve this summer.”

According to Sipsmith’s tasting notes, the Strawberry Smash gin boasts fresh strawberry notes followed by light citrus and a hint of mint. Unsurprisingly, strawberries lead the palate, again balanced by refreshing citrus and mint. Delicate fruitiness combines with dry juniper for a smooth mint finish.

Sipsmith Strawberry Smash gin is available on the distiller’s website now for pre-order.
