Men rescued after getting lost at sea while drinking beers on an air mattress

Two men had to be rescued after they became stranded out at sea, drifting on an inflatable mattress and with only each other and some cans of beer for company.

Man on inflatable in the sea

Two friends, Jackson Perry and Noah Palmer, found themselves in more than a spot of bother recently when they decided to float in the water on an air mattress with some cans of beer.

The pair were drifting around happily near Mr Palmer’s beachside house when they began to notice that they were being swept further and further out to sea.

The strong winds would eventually push the friends – and their inflatable mattress – kilometers out into the Indian Ocean, where they were reportedly stranded for nearly three hours.

After realising they were unable to paddle against the strong winds, and with their mobile phones nearly out of battery, they were able to contact a friend, Tex Seek. Seek was 30 minutes away, but as the inflatable mattress began to lose air, meaning one of the two friends and to jump out to blow it back up every 10 minutes, the rescuer was able to drive them back to safety on a jet ski.

Earlier this week, an urgent recall was issued on cans of beer over fears they could explode. You can read more about that story here.
