British Airways teams up with chef Tom Kerridge
The man behind two Michelin-starred pub The Hand and Flowers, Tom Kerridge, has taken over the food offering in British Airways economy class.
The partnership sees Kerridge design a new menu for the airline’s Speedbird Café pre-purchase menu, which must be ordered before flying in short-haul economy class, known as Euro Traveller.
It marks the end of BA’s food partnership with retailer Marks & Spencer.
The pre-order scheme allows customers to order food, drink and in-flight retail items up to 12 hours prior to their departure in an effort to reduce onboard waste as part of the airline’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.
Dishes designed by Kerridge include a warm steak and ale pie, a ham hock and smoked cheddar sandwich, a chicken bacon and celery brioche, a brie ploughman’s sandwich and a vegan spiced cauliflower tortilla wrap.
The airline will continue to offer free complimentary refreshments and snacks, such as bottled water, crisps and breakfast bars.
Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ director of brand and customer experience, said: “Over the last few months we know that our customers have valued the complimentary refreshments offered, so they’re here to stay. But in addition, we also wanted to offer more choice and the ability to buy something more substantial. After a successful partnership with M&S, we have teamed up with another British favourite, chef Tom Kerridge.”
The restaurateur and TV chef has previously worked with the airline, devising a menu for long-haul flights as part of its centenary celebrations in 2019.
Kerridge added: “I am truly happy to be working with British Airways again, and to have the opportunity to champion the best of British to so many people. A sandwich, made with care and great flavours, can be a perfect meal and I hope the passengers enjoy my short haul menu.”
BA will also be selling another BrewDog beer called JetStream, following the launch of the limited edition Speedbird 100 in 2019.
