Amathus to expand retail and ecommerce operations

UK specialist drinks importer, distributor and retailer Amathus is targeting new growth with the addition of two new retail stores in London and a new ecommerce website this month.

The company, which supplies specialist retailers and the hospitality industry, is opening a store in London’s Muswell Hill this month (on the same site that it occupied a shop in the 1980s) with another, in South Kensington, to follow in February 2021. This will take  the number of shops in the capital to five, along with two regional stores, in Bath and Brighton.

The family owned business is also relaunching its website, AmathusDrinks.com, after a substantial upgrade, to cater for both consumers and trade customers. It will be looked after by the  recently-appointed Head of Marketing Tim Jackson MW, whose role it to expand the business’s marketing capability to fuel expansion.

MD Harry Georgiou said the reshaping of the business has been ongoing since the start of 2020, but had been accelerated by the challenges caused by Covid-19 and its impact on the drinks industry.

“[This] has positioned us strongly to drive growth in the B2B and B2C sides of our business, and the announcements we are making today reflect that,” he said.

He added that it was the “perfect time” to welcome Jackson to the team, who he said would “bring his experience in integrating digital and offline marketing to help push our business forward.”

Tim Jackson said that despite the challenges in the current economic environment, the business had a fantastic range of brands, and that the strong team could deliver Georgiou’s “clear vision and ambition for growth, with marketing at the centre”.
