Aldi releases Provence rosé magnums for £11.99

With rosé proving one of the greatest success stories during lockdown, discount retailer Aldi has launched a Provence rosé in magnum priced at just £11.99.

Called Silence, the grapes that go into the 2019 pale pink hail from the Luberon in Provence, southern France.

According to Aldi, the “bright, pale pink rosé” has “delicate aromas of pink grapefruit, rose, morello cherries and melon with a tangy, mineral finish”.

The retailer also describes the 13%ABV wine as “elegant and fresh with subtle flavours of red fruits”.

“With refreshing rosé widely regarded as the ultimate summer tipple, shoppers can close their eyes and enjoy a slice of the Provençal life,” Aldi said.

Likely to prove a summer hit, not least due to its “easy on the purse strings” price, the magnums have gone on sale online and at Aldi stores across the UK.

The retailer recommends either drinking it as an apéritif or pairing it with grilled meat or chicken caesar salad.

Also keen for a slice of summer rosé action, Spar has launched a Malbec rosé from Mendoza.

Philippa Carr MW, who consults for Spa, described the pink as “smooth, fruity and refreshing with a delicious red berry flavour”.

While enjoyable on its own, Carr recommends pairing it with fried salmon or Asian salads. Rios de Los Andes Malbec Rosé went on sale this week priced at £6.00 a bottle.

An in-depth look at alternative expressions of Malbec, from rosé and white Malbec to sparkling, will appear in the August issue of db.
