What’s on during English Wine Week

English Wine Week kicks off this Saturday (20 June), and we are extremely excited about all the fantastic online tastings, interviews and, more importantly, discounted cases on offer.

Wines of Great Britain (WineGB) is encouraging the trade to get behind the newly launched adapted format of English Wine Week with social distancing still the norm.

A long-standing fan and advocate for the wine industry in Britain, and a co-chair of the WineGB Awards, Oz Clarke will be busy across the week engaging with estates from right across the country to show the breadth and range of the modern English wine industry.

He will team up with Charlie Womersley this weekend to taste wines from up and down the country in a live Youtube series.

Charlie says: “In these dark times we need to support the English.”
Oz says: “Join us. We’re going to have some fun.”

When: Saturday 20, Sunday 21 and Saturday 27 June, 7pm BST.

Graft wine director Nik Darlington is marking English Wine Week by attempting to run 100 kilometres over the course of the week around English vineyards and raising funds for The Drinks Trust in the process.

The 100K English Wine Week Challenge is a challenge to everyone to run, walk or cycle as far as they can during the week with the only requirement being that they go via at least one vineyard – ideally a handful.

Two ‘clubs’ have been set up for cyclists and runners / walkers on the Strava app, so that people can join in and track their own progress throughout the week.

Live updates will be posted throughout the week including during the runs themselves with live streaming along the way.

It’s the longest day of the year on Saturday, which has prompted Plumpton College to raise awareness of the scourge of lightstrike in wineries.

Plumpton Wine Division, The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships and Brad Greatrix, winemaker at Nyetimber, are joining forces during English Wine Week to raise and drive the awareness amongst UK trade and consumers of the dangers of Light Strike. With 21 June the longest day of the year, they will be urging winemakers, wine merchants and customers to take action through a number of initiatives.
