Milano Wine Week goes digital for 2020

Milano Wine Week will run as a digital event this October across 10 major world cities, including London, Hong Kong, San Francisco and Moscow.

Taking place from 3-11 October, tastings, tutorials and presentations will take place in 10 key cities, such as Munich, Shanghai, New York and Toronto. Federico Gordini created the event in 2018 with the ambition of turning Milan into a global wine hub in the same way it is for fashion.

Last year, Milan Wine Week attracted over 300,000 attendees across 300 event spaces in the northern Italian city.

Restaurants and bars across Milan will host special events during Milan Wine Week

“When our reality changes we need to change accordingly. Milano Wine Week has risen to the challenge by turning a gap into an opportunity,” Gordini said.

“During the lockdown, we decided to reimagine and adjust our business model in order to create something that was revolutionary and suitable for these times, trying to achieve an even bigger endeavor at an international level, while complying with strict regulations,” he added.

The week-long event will gather opinion leaders, international professionals and consumers, and will include seminars, masterclasses, tastings and forums exploring everything from millennial drinking habits to wine retail trends.

All participating wine companies will have their own virtual stand at the event. Producers will have the chance to present their wines to journalists and wine buyers in 10 countries around the world at the same time, from Miami to Beijing,

“We will act as a broadcaster streaming a series of programmes that can be accessed in real time around the world. For the first time in our history we have decided to create a common thread connecting all the events in our schedule,” Gordini said.

Throughout the week, bars, restaurants and tasting rooms in Milan will host special Milan Wine Week events, including dinners and tastings.
