Hillebrand acquires US-based drinks logistics company

Drinks logistics specialist Hillebrand has strengthened its services in the US with the acquisition of Baltimore-based warehouse and transportation company Royal Logistics & Royal Service Transport.

In a statement, Hillebrand said the move represents a “significant part” of its business expansion plan, giving the logistics provider access to further storage, cross-docking, distribution, drayage and other services in the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions of the US.

Hillebrand has been working with Royal since 2003, with the acquisition allowing Hillebrand to expand its warehouse facilities and distribution. Following the acquisition, Royal founders Sonny and Janet Sponaugle will remain on the company board.

Commenting on the news, Scott Moorad, COO Hillebrand North America, said: “This acquisition demonstrates Hillebrand’s commitment to invest in the North American network and to reinforce our services for the beer sector.

“Royal shares a similar culture and core values with Hillebrand; and both companies serve the same industries.”

Cees van Gent, CEO and chairman of the company’s executive board, added: “The acquisition of Royal confirms our strong ambition to grow our business and extend our service portfolio in key markets such as the US. Bringing Royal and its services under the Hillebrand name and into our network strengthens our position and offering as a one-stop logistics partner.”

Sonny Sponaugle, co-founder of Royal, concluded: “By joining Hillebrand we now have the means to provide our employees with opportunities to grow in an industry we are all very passionate about serving.”
