Amorim launches new scratch and sniff closures

Closures specialist Amorim has tapped into the world of ‘sensory experience’ with a new range consisting of three types of closure, including one that can be impregnated with a desired fragrance.

With the creation of Amorim Top Series, the cork producer stated that its strategy was to highlight the importance of the five human senses and recognise the importance they play in marketing and consumer choice.

The first product in the series are Sense Tops. The varnish used on these stoppers is impregnated with micro-capsules and a fragrance is released when the surface is scratched. The new Sense Tops are made from enamel, available in a range of colours and designs, and are covered with the scented varnish.

Amorim stated that a transparent film protects the fragranced varnish, and can be easily removed and re-attached to the closure without damaging the material.

Clients may choose the desired fragrance and may sell a top-up spray alongside their product.

Also in the Top Series range is the Ambiance Series, which incorporates LED technology into a stopper. The stoppers are available in two forms: those where the LED can be switched on and off remotely, and others which can be turned on and off by rotating the top.

Amorim states that stoppers can be used to create “unusual ambient settings”.

The third product range in the series is the Evolution Series. The stoppers in this range are heat sensitive, allowing consumers to recognise when a spirit has attained the ideal drinking temperature.

The stoppers use thermochromic paint – a material which changes colour when exposed to a specific temperature. The paint is applied to Amorim’s wooden topped stoppers and changes colour when exposed to the correct temperature.

Customers can opt for a reversible colour change or a one-off permanent change.
