Where winemakers dine: Michael Seresin

Cinematographer and owner of the Seresin estate in Marlborough, Michael Seresin, reveals his favourite dining spots in London and from his travels further afield.

What is your favourite restaurant in London?

I go to Tredwells for their eclectic wine list and seasonal food beautifully cooked by chef Chantelle Nicholson. There are always some imaginative vegetarian options on the menu. The local dinner spot is Hereford Road with its incredibly friendly atmosphere. And for a quick lunch in Soho, I choose Copita, my favourite Spanish tapas bar.

Where / what is your favourite wine offering in London and what would be your go-to first glass of wine when you get there?

I would recommend The New Zealand cellar at Pop Brixton as a place to hang out and learn about NZ wines. I like to try different expressions of the same grape variety, my preferred one being Pinot Noir.

How does London compare with other big metropolitan cities of the world for the quality of its wine offering?

London has got it all, but one of my biggest pleasures is exploring the local food and wine scene while traveling. I always find truly extraordinary places in Paris, recently Septime, where beautiful food is impeccably matched with organic wine.

Berlin has got a lot to offer and the high-end restaurants are often cheaper than London with good choice of natural wines. For family-run restaurants and Italian wine classics, Rome is always a destination.

But true gems are hidden in the Tuscan hills. Badia a Coltibuono in Chianti is run by good friends. The wine list of their older vintages is to die for.
