Eighth edition of World Atlas of Wine to be published this year

UK publisher Mitchell Beazley has confirmed that the eighth edition of the “landmark” World Atlas of Wine, by Jancis Robinson MW and Hugh Johnson OBE, will be released later this year.

Widely recognised as the most authoritative and essential wine reference guide, the Atlas has has sold 4.7 million copies worldwide since it was first published in 1971.

The tome has since grown in size to 416 pages, with 22 new maps added for this latest edition, alongside enhanced photography.

All entries have received a complete overhaul by its writers to reflect changes in the global wine scene over the past six years and to “address the topics of most vital interest to today’s wine- growers and drinkers”.

On its latest reincarnation, Johnson and Robinson said: “This update must be the most substantial ever since the wine world is changing and expanding so much and it has dominated our lives since January 2018.”

Mitchell Beazley, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, acquired world rights to the Atlas from Caradoc King at United Agents. 

Octopus group publishing director Denise Bates said: “‘’Landmark’ is a word that can be over-used in publishing – here is a book that so thoroughly deserves that title. We are delighted that Jancis and Hugh are once again applying their formidable knowledge and insight to a comprehensive update. A new edition of The World Atlas of Wine is a major event.”

The eighth edition of The World Atlas of Wine will be published in October with an RRP of £45.
