Top 10 online drinks retailers for 2019

A new report by Salience Search Marketing has revealed the top 10 online drinks retailers in the UK in terms of search engine optimisation and social media following.

A new report by search engine strategy firm Salience Search Marketing has revealed that Naked Wines remains in the top spot when it comes to the number of monthly searches.

Naked Wines comes in at first place, followed by Bargain Booze and then Fortnum & Mason. Master of Malt is fourth place, The Whisky Exchange is fifth and Majestic is sixth. Laithwaites was seventh, malts.com was eighth, Virgin Wines was ninth and The Wine Society rounded out the top 10.

Naked wine receives an average of 201,000 searches per month, which is a 21.8% increase from 165,000 searches on average last year.

Bargain Booze, which came in second, received on average 60,500 searches, and laithwaites.co.uk received 49,500 on average.

The top five retailers with the best social score are: The Whisky Exchange, followed by Fortnum & Mason, 31Dover, Bargain Booze and Master of Malt. Salience calculates the social score by considering followers and engagements across all social platforms, and the top five have demonstrated strong followings, content engagements and product campaigns.

With link authority, Master of Malt came out on top, followed by The Whisky Exchange, Fortnum & Mason, BBR and Laithwaites.

The sites that had a low volume of high quality referrals each month were Adnams, Oddbins, Waitrose Cellar, Beer Hawk and Roberson Wine, and they have been advised to scale up. However, those who had a high volume of low quality referrals were Drink Supermarket, Whisky Shop, Virgin Wines, Loch Fyne Whiskies and Drinks Direct.

In terms of increasing visibility year-on-year, the top five were The Drink Shop, 31Dover, Virgin Wines, Beer Hawk and the Sunday Times’ online wine club, while the bottom five were Fortnum & Mason, Urban Drinks, Master of Malt, Adnams and Calais Wine.
