NZ wine to host annual London tasting next week

Back for the 38th year running, New Zealand Wine is hosting its annual tasting for both the trade and consumers on 16 January, showcasing over 400 wines in two sessions with a number of focused masterclasses.

Taking place on 16 January, the tasting will celebrate 200 years since vines were planted in New Zealand. There will be wines on show from the regions across New Zealand, including Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Nelson, Marlborough, North Canterbury and Central Otago.

The event is being held in two sessions, one for the wine trade from 10am to 5pm and one for the general public, from 6pm to 9pm.

Masterclasses will be held throughout the day, featuring key personalities including Ronan Sayburn MS, Rebecca Gibb MW and David Kermode.

Full masterclass programme: 

10.30–11.15am: Marlborough: Digging Deeper Synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc. Ronan Sayburn MS reveals the lesser-known side of Marlborough, uncovering recent developments and new varieties.

1.00–1.45pm: Pinot Plus. Discover what makes Central Otago unlike any other New Zealand wine region with Rebecca Gibb MW, tasting its whites and the different expressions of Pinot Noir across the region.

3.00–3.45pm Hawke’s Bay: A new mission. Missionaries first planted vines in Hawke’s Bay in 1851. Nearly 170 years later, Rebecca Gibb MW reveals how the land shapes its modern wine styles.

7.00pm-7.40pm The Unexpected New Zealand Wine: Join wine guru David Kermode for a journey of discovery around New Zealand wine regions to uncover twists on classic wines and find out about the innovative styles that New Zealand is producing today.
