Tesla installs charging station in Rioja

Electric car manufacturer Telsa has installed its first charging station in the Spanish wine region of Rioja at La Rioja Alta winery in Haro.

The Telsa charging station will be operational during La Rioja Alta’s opening hours in order to cater to a growing number of visitors who drive Telsa’s electric cars.

Next to the Telsa “supercharger” will be an alternative charger for owners of other brands of electric car to charge their vehicles while they taste and tour the wineries within the Haro district.

This is the latest step in La Rioja Alta’s commitment to sustainable practices.

The bodega recently installed a solar farm in order to lower its CO2 emissions, uses biomass energy and has limited its treatments within its vineyards.

Based in Palo Alto, California, Telsa was founded in 2003 by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning and entrepreneur Elon Musk, who remains CEO of the company.

Founded in 1890, La Rioja Alta, located in Haro’s historic railway station district, is one of the benchmark estates in Rioja Alta. One of the Rioja region’s biggest tourism hubs, Haro receives tens of thousands of visitors from around the world each year.

An in depth look at green practices at wineries around the world will appear in the January issue of The Drinks Business.
