Greene King pubs Sauvignon label scoops packaging award

A Sauvignon Blanc label created by The Greenhouse design studio for Greene King pubs won the award for the best label across all food and drink categories at the 2018 UK Packaging Awards.

Printed by Reflex Label Plus, the label for The Pass New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough was designed in conjunction with Greene King to sit at the back of bar with craft beers, ciders and spirits.

The label had to be readable and recognised from three metres away, at a crucial distance and time when customers are often making their buying decisions on whether or not to have beer, cider, or a bottle of wine.

The label was designed in a brutalist style, influenced by the packaging used by many craft ciders and beer producers.

The simple and bold design was softened with glitter foil, giving a strong appeal to both male and female consumers.

Terry Cole of The Greenhouse said: “As a design company developing within the drinks business, this award is much appreciated and is a testament to our cutting-edge work, coupled with our ability to interpret remits while having strong relationships with our customers. We hope this is the first of many awards to come”.

Andrew Ingham, drink category manager for Greene King, added: “We are on a mission to make wine an exciting choice for our guests.

“Through a focus on guest insight, and working with the best wineries from across the world, as well as designing labels that are modern, bold and informal, we are able to offer guests something special that they can’t find at their local supermarket.

“We’re extremely happy with the success of this wine, and look forward to building on this achievement.”
