Macallan Genesis already being resold

A bottle of The Macallan ‘Genesis’ – the launch of which last week caused road closures in Scotland – is already being offered online for over four times its retail price.

Online whisky auctioneer Whisky Hammer is currently offering a bottle of Genesis, which is a limited edition of just 2,500 bottles marking the opening of the Macallan’s new distillery, for £2,025 – an amount that is expected to rise substantially.

Released just last week, the demand from whisky fans to get their hands on one of the 360 bottles being offered at the distillery in Moray forced police to close roads and led at least one person to brand the situation “absolute chaos”.

The bottles sold at the distillery (which all disappeared in an hour) cost £495 apiece but those who missed out will be extremely unlikely to find the malt at that price again.

The whisky will remain on sale until Sunday 26 August and it is almost certain that the winning bid will be higher than its current mark.

The Macallan is by far the most sought after Scotch whisky on the collecting and investment circuit.
