Macallan launches Edition No.4 in Hong Kong

Inspired by the structure of Macallan’s new distillery, Macallan’s Edition No. 4 has been launched in Hong Kong at an event hosted by its distributor Edrington Group.

The Macallan creative director Ken Grier came from Scotland to host the event over two nights, which was attended by over 500 whisky enthusiasts, media and influencers in Hong Kong.

The Macallan Edition No.4 – the fourth release in the Edition Series – draws parallels between the new, recently opened Speyside distillery and the lengths The Macallan goes to when creating single malts.

Crafted from a combination of European and American oak casks, Edition No.4 is described as a “spectacular” single malt that is said to have, “rounded honey and sweet toffee aroma and an intense burst of nutmeg with wood spices on the palate”.

Nick Savage, The Macallan master distiller, said: “Edition No.4 is a celebration of The Macallan’s whisky making heritage as we enter an exciting new era, marking the coming together of our history and new horizons in the creation of two structural masterpieces: a remarkable whisky and a magnificent new distillery.

The Macallan’s new distillery is located on the heritage site of Easter Elchies House, the spiritual home of The Macallan since 1824.

Designed by internationally acclaimed architect, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the new distillery will enable production of The Macallan to increase by a third in order to sustain the growing demand for its single malts.

With new stills crafted by Scottish coppersmiths Forsyths – who have been making the brand’s distinctive, ‘Curiously Small’ stills for The Macallan since the 1950s – The Macallan strives to ensure that the spirit that is produced in the new distillery is identical to that of the previous distillery.

The single malt whisky sells for HK$890, and is available in Hong Kong via Edrington.
