Exeter restaurant plans world record attempt with cider

Staff at a restaurant in Exeter are attempting to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records this summer with a cider-based challenge.

The Stable, a pizzeria chain which recently opened a branch in Exeter’s city centre, is hosting an official world record attempt for the largest cider tasting on Saturday the 18th of August.

The restaurant has partnered with The Cider Box — a UK-based craft cider retail business — to provide the fruit-based brews for the event. The current record, held by The Oast House in Manchester, stands at 255 people.

Tickets to the tasting sell for £10 per person and include a t-shirt, a glass and samplings of the eight ciders on the shortlist for The Stable’s own craft cider awards.

The money raised from ticket sales will be donated to mental health charity Mind.

Dan Heath — The cider Box’s founder — said: “It’s a dream, a fruity fermented dream, to be bringing the World Record home to The West Country from the North. And to Exeter’s Cathedral to Cider, where we’ll raise a glass and taste eight of the finest ciders in the land as we go through the shortlist.

“Paired with a slice of cheese or two, we aim to smash the current world record, enjoy some fine fermented juice, and raise some money for a cause close to our hearts.”
