Top sommeliers to speak at WLC masterclasses at London Wine Fair

A host of London’s top sommeliers will take part in two exclusive Wine List Confidential masterclasses aimed at the on-trade at this year’s London Wine Fair, discussing hot topics including what makes a winning wine list and how best to retain staff in the capital.

Jan Konetzki, head sommelier at Ten Trinity Square Private Club, will be among the panelist set to take part in a series of masterclasses with Wine List Confidential at the London Wine Fair

Launched by the drinks business last year, Wine List Confidential is a unique platform that uses a numeric rating system that allows wine lovers to quickly compare the wine offer in restaurants, no matter what the food or format, highlighting the very best restaurants in London for wine.

The first masterclass will take place at 10.30am on Tuesday, at the Wine List Confidential stand (F45) and will be chaired by Wine List Confidential’s content editor Douglas Blyde, who will discuss the pressing issue of how best to retain staff in London’s restaurant trade with top sommeliers Clement Robert MS, food and beverage director at Texture; Jan Konetzki, head sommelier at Ten Trinity Square Private Club; and Roger Jones, chef owner of the Michelin-starred The Harrow at Little Bedwyn.

A second masterclass will take place on Wednesday at 3-4pm, chaired by editor-in-chief of the drinks business, Patrick Schmitt MW, on the topic of what makes a winning wine list. Top talent set to discuss the trends currently dominating London wine lists include: Honey Spencer, wine manager at London’s Nuala; Nik Darlington, founder of wine importer Red Squirrel and supplier to the on-trade; and Caroline Fridolfsson, head sommelier of Clarette, which is co-owned by Alexandra Petit Mentzelopoulos, the youngest daughter of the Château Margaux dynasty.

Masterclasses are free to attend with places offered on a first come first serve basis.

Guests to the fair are also invited to attend the first Wine List Confidential Awards on Monday, 21 May, between 4-5pm, to celebrate the very best restaurants for wine in London.
