‘Glorious Bordeaux’ to lead Sotheby’s sale

‘Glorious Bordeaux in every state of maturity and expression,” will be the heart of Sotheby’s next London sale, including a bottle of 1909 Haut-Brion and 1918 Lafite.

Montrose 2010

Taking place on 18 April, the sale will begin with some exceptionally rare bottles of early 20th century first growths including: 1909 Haut-Brion (£900-£1,200); 1914 Lafite (£700-£900); 1918 Lafite (£850-£1,100); 1922 Lafite (the same estimate); 1928 Mouton Rothschild (£1,500-£2,000) and 1929 Latour (£850-£1,100).

After that, bidders can expect the usual array of great vintages from the latter half of last century from the great estates; 1945 Lafite and 1947 Cheval Blanc, 1961 Latour and La Mission Haut-Brion and Petrus spanning 1952 to 2010.

Bordeaux négocient, Mestrezat Grands Crus has consigned a collection of 2010 Montrose ranging from half bottles to an 18-litre Melchior.

There is also a strong selection of Right Bank wines from vintages such as 1982, 1989, 1996, 2000 and 2005.

Although Bordeaux dominates, there are also “treasures” from other regions in the shape of 2001 Romanée-Conti, 1990 Rayas and 1982 Krug Clos du Mesnil as well as a few “gems” from Italy and Australia.
