Wine Society CEO steps down after six years

Robin McMillan, CEO of The Wine Society, is stepping down from his role at the end of this month after almost six years with the UK merchant.

As CEO, McMillan has overseen the new digital strategy which has been a significant investment for The Society and has delivered much-needed exciting new functionality and content on the website, resulting in increased member satisfaction and sustained growth.

He was instrumental in the introduction of the Employee Engagement, Executive Management and Manager/Specialist Development programmes, and in the past 18 months has been focused on modernising The Society’s communication with members through a new web-based ‘Community’.

“I am proud to have led this sustained growth of the business and the significant investments that have been made to deliver the best possible services for our members,” said McMillan.

During the course of his leadership, turnover at The Society has grown by 45% and active membership has grown by over 25,000, now standing at 140,000.

Sarah Evans, The Society’s chairman, added: “Robin leaves The Wine Society in a healthy and positive position as a business and within our competitive market. On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank him for all his work over the last six years and join with Society members and staff in wishing him well for the future.”

McMillan’s interim replacement, from 1 March 2018, will be Liz Cerroti, head of member experience on The Society’s executive team.
