‘Best Sassicaia in decades’ released

The latest vintage of Super Tuscan Sassicaia, the 2015, has been released in the UK and drawn comparisons to one of the estate’s legendary vintages.

With the vintage being compared to the 1985 in quality, not least because the weather conditions were so similar (a mild winter, rainy spring and hot summer) the final blend was 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.

The wine has drawn praise from various critics including James Suckling who gave it 98 points and said it “could be potentially one of the best Sassicaias in decades”.

Monica Larner at The Wine Advocate meanwhile awarded it 91-93 points when tasting it from the barrel.

The wine is being offered from today (1 February) for £565 per six bottles in bond. The estate’s other wines the Guidalberto 2016 and Le Difese 2016 are als being offered at £120 and £65 per six in bond respectively.

Kirsten Kilby, managing director of the wine’s UK agent, Armit Wines, said: “The release of Sassicaia is a key date in our calendar and one which always excites our team, as well as our customers. The 2015 vintage once again captures the essence of this truly unique terroir showcasing generous and refined black fruit aromas, perfectly balanced as always by beautiful freshness and elegance. Armit Wines has been the exclusive importer of Sassicaia for over 25 years and I am absolutely thrilled to present this eagerly anticipated vintage to our customers in what is an extra special year for us as we celebrate our 30th Anniversary”.

The wines will be shipped in the summer of this year.
