Woman denies pouring wine on Warhol artworks on first date

A Texan woman has appeared in court charged with causing at least US$300,000 worth of damage to a lawyer’s art collection after she allegedly poured wine over his artworks, including two by Andy Warhol.

Lindy Lou Layman, 29, from Dallas, Texas, has denied Anthony Buzbee’s claims that she damaged his art collection.

Buzbee alleges that Layman became intoxicated during their first date and poured wine over some of his artworks, including two by renowned artist Andy Warhol – each valued at $500,000 (£369,000). He also claims that Layman, a court reporter, smashed two $20,000 (£14,800) sculptures after refusing to leave his $9 million (£6.66 million) River Oaks mansion, despite repeated attempts to call her an Uber.

Appearing in court in Houston on Tuesday (9 February), Layman was first arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with felony criminal mischief. She was released on a $30,000 (£22,000) bond.

Layman’s defence attorney, Justin Keiter, told local media that: ‘We certainly disagree with Mr Buzbee’s rendition of the facts when he spoke to the media and we disagree with what was said in probable cause court”.

Continuing, he told the Houston Chronicle that he would save the real story for the courtroom.

“She’s weathering the storm of the intense media scrutiny that she has endured. She’s a great person,” he added.

Buzbee, who reportedly donated money towards Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, though later relinquished his support, has represented high profile clients including the former Texas governor Rick Perry in an abuse of power case.

Last year, he fought with the River Oaks Property Owners after the group complained that his $600,000 (£444,540) WWII tank parked outside his house was ‘impeding traffic’ and causing a ‘safety issue’.
