Frescobaldi opens second Florence restaurant

Tuscan winery Frescobaldi has opened a restaurant in Florence’s Piazza della Signoria that specialises in classic Tuscan dishes with a contemporary twist.

Ristorante Frescobaldi Firenze follows on from the Tuscan noble family’s London restaurant, Ristorante Frescobaldi, which opened in Mayfair in 2014 and serves the likes of veal cheek pappardelle with rosemary croutons; langoustine carpaccio with pistachios; and asparagus and black truffle risotto.

At the Florence site, head chef Roberto Reatini has created a classic Tuscan menu with contemporary twists.

Among the dishes on his debut menu are grilled octopus with Jerusalem artichoke; Sicilian red prawn tartare with avocado; pear and pecorino tortelli with honey and walnuts; taglioni with white truffle and truffle butter; and beef fillet with brandy and almonds.

On the wine front, alongside the full range from Frescobaldi are other Italian wines such as Ornellaia and Masseto.

Also on pour is Gorgona, a Vermentino and Ansonica blend made in collaboration with Frescobaldi and prisoners on the island of Gorgona to give them the skills to help them get back into work.

The opening of the 130-cover Ristorante Frescobaldi Firenze was celebrated with a special performance by the ‘sbandieratori’ (flag wavers) of Figline in a nod to the family’s long links to Tuscany.

This project is an opportunity to bring a high profile restaurant experience to the people and visitors of Florence, while showcasing the Frescobaldi brand in a prestigious location,” she added.

In addition to its Tuscan and London restaurants, Frescobaldi also runs a wine bar at Fiumicino Airport in Rome and at Harrods in London’s Knightsbridge, and Dei Frescobaldi restaurant in Florence’s historic center.

Frescobaldi’s wine roots stretch back to the 14th century. In addition to their own wineries, the company owns Super Tuscans Ornellaia and Masseto.
