AMC releases The Walking Dead wine collection

US TV network AMC has launched a trio of wines based on its hit zombie-based drama The Walking Dead, after teaming up with online retailer Lot18.com.

The Walking Dead Wine Collection, available from Lot 18, features three different red wines, including a blend, based on the characters Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Negan.

The Rick Grimes is a 2016 California Petite Sirah described as “a true crowd pleaser” that is  “bold, dark and balanced, exhibiting a notable tension between the bright acidity and firm, tannic structure. You’ll realise with just one sip that his is a wine that’ll never let you down.”

Daryl Dixon is a 2016 California Cabernet Sauvignon that is “similarly reliable, showing depth and an attractive core of ripe black fruits, intermingled with savoury nuances of coffee bean and dried herbs.”

“Like Daryl’s crossbow, this is a wine you can count on to always hit the mark,” it adds.

Final Negan is a 2016 California Bourbon Barrel Red Blend comprised of 73% Merlot, 18% Zinfandel and 9% Petite Sirah, described as “brawny and bold, creating devotees with its robust, extracted flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, and caramel.”

A portion of the wine was aged in bourbon barrels for three months, making it a wine that “packs a punch harder than Lucille’s, compelling you through the apocalypse and beyond,” according to its makers.

The AMC show, which is set in Georgia and premiered in 2010, is a post-apocalyptic horror drama which follows a group in southern America as they try to survive in a world overrun with zombies, known as “walkers”, and is based on a comic book of the same name.

The three wines went on sale yesterday, at US$22 each, and will be available while limited supply lasts.
