Antinori takes control of Chile’s Haras de Pirque

Tuscan wine producer Antinori has acquired Chilean wine estate Haras de Pirque in Maipo for an undisclosed sum, having worked with the winery since 2003.

The acquisition is the culmination of a partnership that began in 2003, when the Antinori family collaborated with Haras de Pirque’s Matte family to create Albis – the winery’s flagship wine – with Antinori later taking on responsibility for managing its vineyard and winemaking operations.

The estate in the upper Maipo Valley comprises 247 acres of vineyards planted with Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, at between 1,804 to 2,100 feet above sea level, near the foothills of the Cordillera de los Andes.

“We are excited to continue our Chilean venture,” said Albiera Antinori, president of Marchesi Antinori. “Haras de Pirque is a renowned producer in the Maipo Valley, and we will focus on enhancing the quality of our estate-grown fruit through sustainable and organic vineyard practices.”

“The beauty of the region and unique terroir has always fascinated us. We will continue to merge tradition and innovation to craft flavorful, elegant wines at the highest standards.”

The Antinori family owns eight estates in Italy throughout much of Tuscany, as well as properties in United States, Hungary, Malta and Romania.
