…. along with celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, who was in town to host his first ever Spago pop-up in London, held at his American steak restaurant, The Cut at 45 Park Lane. “Spago and Lanson have had a 35-year relationship so I’m here in support of the brand – I even drink Lanson Champagne with steak!” the chef said.

Lanson’s managing director Paul Beavis and Lanson owner Philippe Baijot were also in attendance to help celebrate the Champagne house’s 40th associated year with the iconic tournament. Lanson was first poured 40 years ago in 1977 – the Year Virginia Wade won the women’s singles title – becoming its official Champagne Supplier to The Championships, in 2001. During the first day of the tournament, Baijot was invited into the Royal Box to watch Andrew Murray and to meet Kate Middleton.

Other guests included Olympic gold medalist Sir Steve Redgrave (pictured with his wife Ann), award-winning musical composer, David Foster, Sunday Times Editor, Martin Ivens and Anthony von Mandl, the owner of Mission Hill winery in Canada.

This year, 43 Norwich pubs, 36 local breweries and 250 different real ales took part in City of Ale 2017. Around 55,000 pints of cask ale were consumed, the majority made with barley grown and malted in the region.
Nederburg has continued its support of Team Dimension Data in the Tour de France, now in its 104th year. This year the team consists of Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Jaco Venter, Serge Pauwels, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Mark Cavendish (withdrew from the race on 4 July due to a crash), Steve Cummings, Scott Thwaites, Bernhard Eisel and Mark Renshaw.

db was taken care of by Chandon at last week’s BST Hyde Park festival on Saturday, when Green Day was headlining. The Chandon Sunset Bar had an enviable position overlooking the stage, with its lovely team serving up bottles of its rosé and brut fizz to thirsty gig goers all weekend.

Cloudy Bay took to the waves this week at Round The Island Race. On board the boat and part of the crew was Jo Thornton and Guillaume Penot as well at Cloudy Bay brand ambassador Ben Fogle.
Cloudy Bay became the presenting sponsor of the Round the Island Race for 2017. The iconic one-day race is one of the largest participation sporting events in the UK – with regular annual entries exceeding 1,500 yachts and upwards of 12,000 sailors.
Silent Pool Gin was invited by Freiburg to go to represent Guildford at their international Sister Cities Market last weekend.
Villa Maria is one of the Sponsors of RHS Hampton Court, supporting their Cook & Grow theatre, where they are doing a wine tasting daily & talking about their sustainable practices in the vineyard. WH Palmer has launched Palmers London Dry Gin this week to celebrate the Palmer family’s 200th year of distilling. This is the company’s first eponymous-brand gin produced at its Langley Distillery in the Midlands.
Champagne house Perrier-Jouët celebrated the reopening of its historic Maison Belle Epoque in Epernay this week, which was attended by supermodel Karolina Kurkova and P-J’s cellar master Hervé Deschamps, who toasted the opening with a flute of Belle Epoque.
During the launch, guests were given a guided tour of the maison, which boasts one of the world’s largest private collections of Art Nouveau artworks.
Before sitting down to dinner guests milled about the garden, flutes in hand, and were cooked for by Michelin-starred chef ‘Akrame’, a rising star in Paris. Among the dishes were tomato carpaccio and a lobster hot dog.
The evening ended with a DJ set by Polo & Pan.
With her brother Miguel just having picked up The Drinks Business and IMW Lifetime Achievement Award, Marimar Torres caught up with db during a fleeting visit to London at wine members’ club, 67 Pall Mall, where she revealed that she’s experimenting with Godello at her Sonoma County winery, Marimar Estate, where Albariño has been thriving for years.
