Lanson marks 40 years at Wimbledon

Champagne Lanson prepares to celebrate its 40th-associated year at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships which begin on 3 July.

The Champagne house will be sponsoring this year’s Wimbledon Championships in July, which marks the 16th year it has been the exclusive partner of the prestigious tennis competition and the 40th year since it began supplying Champagne to the tournament.

This year’s Wimbledon will also mark the launch of Lanson’s new organic Green Label cuvée. The new expression is made using certified organic grapes from its own vineyards in the Marne Valley around the village of Verneuil. It is made in the “Lanson style”, which means that the base wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. The Green Label wine is then aged for more than three years on its lees in the Lanson cellars – the long maturation period offsets the high level of malic acid in the Champagne.

Managing director of Champagne Lanson UK and International, Paul Beavis, commented: “The Championships, Wimbledon inevitably acts as a good barometer for what consumers like to drink. It’s all about understated elegance and tennis in a country garden, and we hope that our new organic Green Label, which also comes from our garden in the Marne Valley, will be a great addition to our other popular Champagnes that will also be available throughout The Championships.”

Champagne Lanson will also be unveiling its familiar and collectable neoprene bottle cooler jackets. Designed in the style of a tennis court, the cooler jackets will also feature the official Wimbledon Championships logo and will be available for Lanson’s Black, White and Rosé Label bottles. Champagne Lanson’s Extra Age will also be available to purchase at The Championships.

Beavis added: “We are delighted that Champagne Lanson has reached such an incredible milestone through our partnership with The Championships, Wimbledon. We also hope to build on this with the launch of our new organic Green Label Champagne and through our other fun campaigns outside the bottle, like our celebratory neoprene bottle cooler jackets, so that our partnership with The Championships, Wimbledon continues to be nurtured and cherished, our wines continue to be enjoyed – and our innovations can carry on, year after year.”

Away from SW19, Selfridges will be selling 20cl bottles of Lanson adorned in its Wimbledon-themed, “Selfridges” yellow cooler jackets for £14.99, as well as the new Green Label for £49.99 and the Black and Rosé Label in neoprene jackets for £39.99 and £44.99 respectively.

The Scarfe’s Bar at the Rosewood, have created an exclusive cocktail called ‘Strawberry Queen’, available throughout the Wimbledon Championships (3-16 July.) In addition, 67 Pall Mall will be pouring Lanson’s Green Label by the glass while The View from The Shard and The Grosvenor House Hotel have created Champagne Lanson Wimbledon-themed terrace bars.
