Hong Kong’s Belon unveils ‘Rare Wine Nights’ programme

Hong Kong’s wine crowd will now get a chance to sip on some rare wines without breaking the bank. Belon, a neo-Parisian bistro in Central, is rolling out a Rare Wine Nights programme, offering a premium wine-by-the-glass list and a separate cellar of hard-to-find bottles at “close to market prices”, the Black Sheep Restaurants group that owns the modern bistro in Hong Kong’s Soho area recently announced.

The wine list, according to the restaurant group, is curated by a Master Sommelier and features one red, one white and one Champagne per evening. The cellar list is French-focused and represents most regions and bottles range from prominent producers including first growth Château Latour in Bordeaux and Domaine de la Grange des Pères to small, esoteric selections such as L’Apostrophe L’Amandyere and Saumur’s Domaine Guiberteau.

Available in its dining area downstairs and its lounge area called Upstairs, the selection is focused on biodynamic and natural wine from small producers. All bottles are available in limited quantity with a restricted allocation in Hong Kong, according to the restaurant group.

There are also French-rooted, locally influenced dishes created by its chef Daniel Calvert to pair with the wines.

The Rare Wine Nights programme is designed to encourage guests to expand their palate, according to Black Sheep Restaurants co-founders Syed Asim Hussain and Christopher Mark.

“Chris and I have cultivated long-standing relationships with producers to bring our guests both easy-drinking and more eclectic options,” says Hussain. “The Rare Wine Nights Upstairs at Belon will afford guests the opportunity to try some really stunning bottles that they might not have access to because of scarcity and hefty price tags.”

Upstairs at Belon is a stylish yet welcoming lounge reflective of the refined, thoughtful experience offered by chef Calvert in the downstairs restaurant. Both Upstairs and the restaurant are open from Tuesday through to Sunday.
