Ornellaia collection makes $112,500 in NYC

The ninth edition of Ornellaia’s ‘Vendemmia d’Artista’ collection made US$12,500 at auction this week when it was sold at a charity auction at the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Nine lots from the latest edition of the Super Tuscan’s annual art project, this year dubbed ‘L’Essenza’, were sold by Sotheby’s for the benefit of the Guggenheim Museum and Foundation on Thursday (27 April).

‘Interpreting’ the 2014 vintage was Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto, who drew heavily on the indigenous Huni Kin tribe of the Amazon for his inspiration for the design.

Several of the large format bottles bearing his artwork were sold at the auction. Richard Armstrong, director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, commented: “The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was thrilled to host Ornellaia, Sotheby’s and the renowned artist Ernesto Neto in the ninth edition of L’Essenza Vendemmia d’Artista.

“We are honoured that Ornellaia chose the Guggenheim Museum for this spectacular event and are grateful for its generous support. Like wine, art has universal significance”.

Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja, managing director of Ornellaia, added: “Today, as the Vendemmia d’Artista marks its ninth year, it continues to attract funds for the restoration of artworks belonging to our universal heritage.

“In just eight years we have succeeded in donating more than one million euros across the globe, just a small drop perhaps, but there is much more to come”.
