English sparkling wine show launched

Hoping to capitalise on the growing interest in English sparkling wine, entrepreneur Fabio Adler has launched a consumer show dedicated to English fizz.

Due to take place at The Hoxton in Shoreditch on 31 May, The English Sparkling Wine Show is being billed as the first event of its kind devoted to homegrown bubbles.

Taking place during English Wine Week, the show will run from 6-9pm and attendees will have the chance to try sparklers from Digby Fine English, Herbert Hall, Hoffmann & Rathbone and Smith & Evans among others.

Early bird tickets are priced at £15 or £20 on the door.

“In recent years, English sparkling wine has been highly praised for its quality, beating Champagne in various competitions and collecting an impressive number of awards and medals,” Adler said.

“Although it is a category that is growing in popularity and recognition, it still feels to be quite under-the-radar for most consumers.

“My mission with the show is to champion and celebrate English sparkling wine in London, and to help raise its profile,” he added.

To coincide with the wine show, Adler has also launched Mousseux Anglais, a company dedicated to the promotion of English sparkling wine.

He is currently working on a London guide to English fizz detailing which restaurants, hotels and bars certain brands are on pour.

Adler also plans to open and English sparkling wine pop-up bar and is on the lookout for a suitable site.

Prior to this venture he worked as a restaurant marketing consultant and spent three years as an events manager for Quintessentially.

English sparkling wine is rarely out of the news at the moment. On Sunday Chapel Down took the bold step of launching England’s most expensive sparkling wine – Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvée 2013 – priced at £99.99 a bottle.

    We’re big supporters of English sparkling wine, but it’s getting the consumer to buy into the idea and accept that what they receive, relative to price paid, is far better quality than some of the mass produced, and heavily discounted, foreign imports which dominate the market. Hopefully events like this will help educate the end customer so they will purchase more English sparkling wines in shops, restaurants, and for their events (large and small). Good luck with the show.
