Sotheby’s HK Launches Spring Sale Series 2017

More than 1,600 lots including some of the most sought-after Bordeaux first growths, rare Burgundies, and the Macallan in Lalique Legacy Collection will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s Hong Kong’s spring series on 1 & 2 April.

The sale is estimated to bring in HK$52 million (US$6.7 million), the auction house said.

Leading the Hong Kong sale on 1 April is an impressive array of Bordeaux and Burgundy from the third and final instalment of ‘A Monumental Collection from the Cellars of a Connoisseur’ after New York and London. The scope of first growth vintages from both the Right and Left Banks ranges from the historic to the more recent with Lafite 1949, Margaux 1959, and Pétrus 1971 and Yquem’s fabled 1947 vintage.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s Montrachet headlines the selection of white Burgundy. In addition, the sale also includes Rhônes and Italian wines from Piedmont and Tuscany, on top of some bottles from Spain, Germany, Australia and Hungary.

The Finest and Rarest Wines and The Macallan on 2 April is set to achieve between HK$31 million and HK$45 million (US$4 million – US$5.8 million). Highlights of the sale include The Macallan in Lalique Legacy Collection, featuring the Six Pillars series which contains The Macallan’s single malts aged from 50 to 65 years housed in a unique cabinet by Lalique. This will be offered for sale as “the only complete, direct from the distillery collection in the world”, claimed the auction house. Partial proceeds of this special lot will be donated to Hong Kong based and other Asian charities.

Adam Bilbey, head of Sotheby’s Wine Asia, said: “It is with great anticipation that we open the Sotheby’s Spring Sales Series for 2017. We will offer the third and final instalment of A Monumental Collection From the Cellars of a Connoisseur, a breathtaking array of the world’s finest wine with sought-after vintages.

“On the second day, the auction of Finest and Rarest Wines and The Macallan is headlined by The Macallan in Lalique Legacy Collection the first time the complete collection of six decanters to be offered at auction in a unique ebony cabinet direct from the distillery to benefit regional charities.
