Piper-Heidsieck to be the Champagne of the Oscars

Champagne house Piper-Heidsieck is to add to the sparkle of this year’s Oscars as the Champagne served during the Academy Awards season.

Piper-Heidsieck will be the exclusive Champagne of the Academy Awards season

The 2017 Academy Awards season marks the third year of a long-term partnership between Piper-Heidsieck and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In addition to the awards ceremony on 26 February, Piper-Heidsieck will be poured at Academy events in Los Angeles, New York and London, including the official Oscars Screening Party at Ham Yard Hotel.

To mark the occasion, Piper-Heidsieck has created a limited-edition magnum bottle (pictured) to be poured at the ceremony and the Governors Ball – the Academy’s official Oscars after-party.

Described as “an exceptional bottle for an exceptional night, the Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut magnum is coloured red and features a design of gold film around the bottle.

“Piper-Heidsieck has a long and rich association with cinema and is proud to return to the Oscars, the ultimate arbiter of cinematic achievement in film,” said Benoit Collard, global executive director of Champagne Piper-Heidsieck.

“On behalf of Piper-Heidsieck, I want to congratulate all the nominees for this great recognition by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.”

The Champagne house has a just claim to have been supporting cinema since 1933, when a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck appeared in Sons of the Desert, the debut film of Laurel and Hardy.

In 1964, Piper-Heidsieck celebrated Rex Harrison’s Oscar for his role in My Fair Lady with a tailor-made 48-litre bottle that was literally as tall as the actor – 5ft-10ins.

Piper-Heidsieck continues to support film heritage through the French Cinémathèque and has been the official Champagne of the International Cannes Film Festival for more than two decades.

The Champagne house is encouraging Oscars fans to celebrate Oscars night on Twitter using the hashtag #PiperReady.

The 89th annual Academy Awards take place Sunday, 26 February at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone musical La La Land is leading the way with 14 Oscars nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Song and Actor and Actress nods for the two lead actors.
