Tequila boss sells ranch with 120 exotic animals
John Paul DeJoria, the co-founder of Patrón Spirits, has sold his unusual Texas ranch for $6.93 million, along with more than 100 exotic animals and a fully stocked underground bomb shelter.
The 96-acre waterfront property in Dripping Hills has four bedrooms and six bathrooms a swimming pool, lake, two barns, each with housing for caretakers, and a 2,700 sq ft underground bomb shelter, according to its estate agent DMTX Realty.
The three-bedroom shelter is fully stocked with food and water, should it be required.
However its most unusual asset is its permanent residents – 120 exotic African animals – including wildebeest, oryx, gazelle and antelope.
The animals were included in the sale of the property, the buyer with the property’s buyer, Austin-based television producer Jonathan Nowzaradan, telling the Wall Street Journals that it “feels like you’re on an African safari”.
DeJoria co-founded hair product business John Paul Mitchell Systems in 1980, and went on to establish premium Tequila company Patrón spirits.
