Oddbins unleashes its inner chimp

Oddbins has launched its latest Christmas campaign which features a dozen anarchic chimpanzees taking over its stores.

The 12 Chimps of Chimpmas campaign is running on social media, Youtube and in store, and includes spinning window displays.

It follows last year’s successful and disruptive Follow the Fox campaign, a purposely low-key campaign video designed to contrast with the blockbuster Christmas advertisements favoured by most big British retailers. It was fronted by Broadchurch actor Olivia Coleman and raised money for charity through a silent auction of its fox dolls.

This year, it is the chimps themselves that are the disruptive force, with the main ad on Youtube showing the dozen animals (played by actors) break int the wine store and decorated it for Christmas, only to fling faeces at the store manager when they get caught, with the tagline ‘Give a sh*t this Christmas”.

“Bouncing foxes are SO last year. This year, it’s all about Chimps,” the retailer said. “Like daemons of folklore, each branch has a chimp that embodies its character. The #12ChimpsofChristmas will be quietly taking control of all of our stores.”

Each chimp – Smart, Notorious, Loveable, Crafty, Thoughtful, Passionate, Snazzy, Curious, Hilarious, Outspoken, Sassy and Crazy – will help to highlight a new wine of the week in stores, as well as starring in its own 20-second Youtube short.

The retailer has also launched a prizedraw competition offering customers the chance to win a holiday in Malaysia.
