HK gears up for Beertopia

Hong Kong’s biggest craft beer festival, Beertopia, is set to return from 18-19 November at the Central Harbourfront.

Established in 2012, Beertopia is now in its fifth year with more beer-loving crowds expected than ever before. Over 13,000 poured in through the gates last year to sample some of Hong Kong’s best homegrown craft beer offerings as well as over 500 others from across the globe.

This year’s event will feature 13 local Hong Kong labels, including Black Kite Brewery, City Brew, Gweilo Beer, Hitachino HK, Hong Kong Beer Company, Kowloon Bay Brewery, Lion Rock Brewery, Lucky Dawgs Brewing Co., Mak’s Brewing, Moonzen Brewery, Nine Dragons Brewery, Yardley Brothers and Young Master Ales.

Beertopia was started by Canadian beer enthusiast, Jonathan So, who found a lack of lack of diversity in the beer selection in Hong Kong bars and restaurants back in 2012, and noticed a general apathy towards beer.

“The goal of Beertopia is to provide an opportunity for people to taste and learn about quality beers they might not be aware of, and to do this in a fun and lively environment,” he said.

“While there are many food and wine events in Hong Kong that also include beer, good beer is typically an afterthought. By bringing beer to the forefront, hopefully the festival can help raise the interest of craft beer in Hong Kong.”

Beertopia 2016 will run from 18-19 November at the Central Harbourfront with tickets starting from HK$285.
